Defense Against the Dark Arts:

Welcome to your first class of Defense Against the Dark Arts! I am your teacher, Professor Seregon. Our first unit will involve dangerous or downright pesky creatures, so please dont complain that its very much like Care of Magical Creatures! We will be defending ourselves against them, not caring for them.

To start off, Im going to reduce the danger a bit, so we wont be dealing with creatures involving death by sight. Our first dangerous creature is known as the Pogrebin. Native to Russia, pogrebins arent extremely dangerous, but over a long period of time, they could be fatal. Taking on the characteristics of a rock, pogrebins arent usually spotted head on. The only way to tell if a pogrebin is near is when you eventually start to feel a sense of hopelessness and you wander aimlessly, your spirits down. All the deaths involving pogrebins are caused when the person finally collapses, and the creature attempts to devour them.

The only flaw pogrebins have ever shown is their dislike for color. Bright colors will drive them away instantly, and so it is not surprising that pogrebins have taken to liking the cold, dreary rocks of Russia. In order to defend yourself against pogrebins, either when face to face with them or when you suspect on is near, you must learn the color-summoning spell. Please repeat after me: Iridescence

When this spell is said, a burst of color will stream from your wand, imitating any color that of the rainbow. If any pogrebin happens to be near, it wills either flee, or, if it happens to be trapped, it will disintegrate. Pogrebins have a mental and physical allergy to color, and therefore the mere presence of color can be felt in its lumpy little body, harming it.

Many times acres full of Pogrebins have been wiped out due to a color-summoning spell that can be seen for miles.

Homework

For your first homework assignment, you are to write an essay. Put yourself in the position of a person being followed by a pogrebin. What color would appear from your wand? Why would it be that color? What do you think would be running through your mind the whole time you were in the state of hopelessness? This is a fairly short essay so I dont expect more than 3 to 4 sentences. Good luck, students!

Please remember to send homework to the teacher in the forum. The teacher of this class is Ainil.
