Arithmancy:

Please send your homework to daniel in the forum.

Hello and welcome to your first Arithmancy class. My name is Prof. Daniel and I will be your arithmacy teacher. Most of you may think that Arithmancy is just a boring and difficult subject but hopefully this class will make you look at numbers in a whole new way. Arithmancy is actually an ancient system of fortune-telling based on names and numbers. Soooo lets get on with our first lesson.

As most of you know the name Arithmancy comes from the Greek arithmo meaning number and mance meaning prophecy. Arithmancy has been used for more than 2,000 years by magicians and wizards to help people analyze their strenghts and weaknesses, overcome obstacles and chart their future paths.

Arithmancy, also known as numerology, is based on two very old ideas. The first is that a person's name contains important clues to their character and destiny. The second advanced more than 2,500 years ago by the Greek sage Pythagoras, is that each of the numbers between 1 and 9 has a unique meaning that can contribute to the understanding of all things. Over the centuries, arithmancers combined these two ideas and developed many complex systems for converting names into numbers and analyzing the results.

One of the most widely used systems involves extracting three key numbers from a person's name (the Character number, the Heart numbert, and the Social Number) and interperting the outcome according to a set of established meanings. This system, which we suspect was widely know by the Middle Ages and is still used today. All it requires is a pencil, paper and the ability to add and spell. You will be learning how to do this in your next lesson.

That is all for your first Arithmancy lesson. Don't forget to do your homework.
